Planting the Roots of Sustainability

March 29, 2024

Sustainability is one of the primary legacy goals of Seattle's FIFA World Cup organizing committee and partners. This commitment-- embedded in the values of our region and its people-- will be reflected in all aspects of our work leading up to, and including, the six matches we will host in 2026. Central to these efforts is the leadership of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians, the first ever Indigenous partner of a FIFA World Cup host city anywhere in the world, and a recognized champion for the preservation of our forests, protection of clean air and water, and restoration of wild salmon populations. To kick off these efforts, and in honor of Earth month, the Puyallup Tribe is teaming up with the Tacoma Tree Foundation to host a special tree giveaway for members of the tribal community. This event will be just one of many throughout the month to highlight regional coordination and sustainability preparation.
